The wind whistled through her black fur, and her amber eyes were closed as she let calm serenity overcome her. A leaf blew into her leg, and she opened her eyes slightly, startled. A little break is all I need, she thought, relaxing again. Her nerves were jumpy lately, and she had guessed it was from stress. She just needed a break. Being her, however, she didn't see such a thing as a vivid possibility. word count: 100

My eyes did not let me down as I wandered along my lands. I had just left the alphess, though I did not see us ever being mates I did want one. My large body moved patiently along with ease and without another thought I spotted a black lump by the trees.

My eyes lifted as I looked over towards the black female laying on her side curled up. I smiled and slowly approached. Ears lifted and I moved towards her from the front so it wouldn't alarm her. My mouth opened and deep vocals poured out.

'Hello stranger... I am Jay...'

Why bother saying I was the alpha? Everyone knew who I was, my purple eyes and blue coat gave that all away. I waited listening intently for her voice.

She supposed she should be a little more respectful, seeing as Jay was the alpha of her pack, but she was a little frustrated and decided a small amount of disrespect would not cause her too much harm. "Hello Jay," she said, stretching and turning to him. Eclipse lowered her head, and closed her eyes. All I need is a little break, she thought, But that's a lot easier said than done. Suddenly curious, she wondered what he was doing here. The tree wasn't famous for being a great hunting spot, unless you wanted to get feathers stuck in your throat. "What brings you here?" she asked, trying not to sound rude. word count: 119

My eyes lifted as she seemed pissed off that I had made myself present. But what was wrong with that? It was my land I could go where I pleased and right now I was looking for a place to relax. My eyes lifted to her as she spoke and I nodded, she was beta, now I remember. How silly of me.

'To relax, I come here often when I need a break from the pack life, I'm no super wolf, or amazing king, but I do what I can and even a king needs his rest. I stay up all night guarding the pack and the alphess... I rarely get any sleep or talk time with anyone...

I spoke and let out a sigh. Did I regret being the alpha of these beautiful lands, not one chance did I. My tail was hung low and my ears tilted back, a sign of exhautness. I stepped to wards her more and looked down at her as I circled the large tree. I had to get comfortable. I finally pawed gently at a spot right beside but in front of Eclipse. I smiled and circled before laying down as if I were a pup.

I had always liked Eclipse as in, she was a good pack member, rough around the edges with a fire in her but she was smart and moody and she was strong. A good beta always was. My ears lifted, I often called her Clippy behind her back, why? Well Eclipse was a tongue twister to me, I didn't have time for the letters. And clippy was a cute name. I smiled and looked up at the tree.

' How about yourself Clippy.... I mean Eclipse...'

There I went letting my thoughts out, she would probably for sure try to kill me now, though I loved a good play fight. I stared at her, something told me she was a bit more... tensed then that, she seemed to be a verbal abuser, she wouldn't really lunge out at anyone unless it was a real fight. But that was just my thought. My tail thumped against the ground gently, I really did like Clippy, she was a cool wolf.

Or rather, a huge tree. A bird flew past her head, and she ducked to avoid it. They probably wouldn't enjoy being here if a bird flew into their head, she thought. "I suppose I'm here for the same reason," Eclipse said, answering Jay's question. She had come here to rest, and Jay probably had a better excuse for having time off than she did. After all, he was the alpha. She thought about her question, and felt a bit guilty. Remembering his exact question, she suddenly thought of something. My eyes lifted as she ducked from the small bird flying around, I lifted my head watching the bird flutter around in the trees. I smiled at it. How I wished I could fly, I could fly anywhere and no one could ever catch me. I'd be my own wolf. I looked around once again before resting my head on my paw and looking up at clippy.

' It's lovely isn't it? So calm here...'

A smile showed as I let my eyes close and a huge sigh left my body, I was kind of stressed, with the alpha female not being my mate, and having the stereo type of having to be mates with each other. I didn't know if I waned to be mates with anyone. But Eclipse... she was a female I liked, would i bother to tell her? Not a chance, but action spoke louder then words.

I looked at her as she seemed to have an odd look on her face. I chuckled gently my eyes closing again and my ears falling back against my head and I began to breath lightly, my pelt moving with the lovely breeze. I spoke once more.

' Whats on your mind Eclipse...?'

I spoke my final words before one of my ears lifted to listen to her response. My tail curled around my rump and I looked like a giant pile of fur as I laid still waiting. I loved it here.

How would he feel if someone called him....Jay couldn't be shortened. Oh well. She didn't want to sound awkward, but she couldn't help it. "Jay, you shortened my name to Clippy." she said, listening to herself with a mental grimace. Did she like Jay? Well, sure, he was the alpha of Auryn and who could beat purple eyes, right? But would her pack mates be angry if it wasn't stereotypical? It wasn't law that the alpha an alphess had to be mates, but was doing otherwise frowned upon? My eyes were relaxed, I didn't have any worries, nothing really happened here. My mind was set in place as my tail swept the ground. She looked confused, but why? I listened to her speak. My heart pounded at a normal pace. I inhaled deeply and thought to myself.

' I did, I like it with you, I wont call you it if you don't want me too. You do already have such a beautiful name... For a beautiful wolf...'

My words slipped off my tongue as perfect as perfect could get. My eyes met hers. yes I liked Clippy a lot but what could I do? I didn't know her and did you really need to? to like someone? She was pretty, beautiful, she was relaxed and she was my beta. I really didn't care about what others thought. And to be honest they could say what they wanted... I controlled who stayed where. I looked at her, ears tilted back. I waited again silently, blue coat moving in the breeze, my ears and eyes on her.

She lay down and sighed once more. She wondered if he had the same point of view. After all, it must be harder for him, since everybody had such high expectations. And who wouldn't? It was the alpha, and they were alpha for a reason. He had seemed sort of down, so she decided to ask. "Jay, do you feel like you're being pressured by stereotypes? My ears lowered as I listened to her sigh. I didn't really notice what it meant, had I bored her? Maybe she didn't feel the same. My tail flicked as I turned my head and looked out at the forest... well... almost foresty land around us. The large tree was hollow and it creaked and swayed above us. She spoke and my head turned to look at her. That was a good question... I didn't know.

' Sometimes... It's hard to follow a type when as an alpha you are chosen at random, I was chosen because I was strong, I am big and I am not afraid, I am a leader. And Acelia was chosen for the same reasons. But to be honest... I didn't know anything about her, we are good friends but even Denali doesn't run by mated alphas. And personally I don't know if Acelia even likes me... she'd never be mates with someone she just met you know? '

I though of Acelia, she was good girl, smart fast. She was witty I did like her but she was like my sister. A good friend I couldn't see us being more, maybe she felt different? I didn't know but I didn't worry to much about it. I liked who I liked and I liked this black one here. Why should anyone say anything? They'd just be jealous I didn't pick them.

' Why do you ask?'

My purple eyes rested on her as I waited for her response.

How much did he like her? Eclipse realized it was getting late, but lying in the grass was comfortable. The temperature wasn't very hot, but it wasn't frigid either. Huge tree, I love you! she thought with a hint of sarcasm. Something suddenly occurred to her. What would happen if she got on Acelia's bad side? I looked at her till finally she spoke. My ears lifted and I smiled to her. Yes she was a kind wolf, what I liked. My head turned the other way, what would I say back? Thank you obviously. But what else? I couldn't say something stupid. My tongue rolled out and I panted for a few seconds before I sucked it back in. Black lips curled up and I spoke.

' Thank you Eclipse.. You are my best beta... You are one I want to keep close with me.'

I smiled to her and my rib cage rose and fell with each breath I took. I didn't know if she'd pick up the hint. Acelia couldn't mind, she hadn't approached me or acted like she liked me in anyway. Why would I hold out? I could of been with her weeks months ago but she never stepped forward. I'm sure if she had a problem she would address, and to me not Eclipse.

It was getting dark the clouds disappeared and the sky was many shades of blue's and reds and pinks. I loved the night, I hunted at night, like I said I don't sleep much. And I was fine with it, I couldn't stop that. My ears lifted and I looked to Eclipse. She looked like she was thinking...she seemed to do that a lot... I didn't mind. Maybe great minds think alike?

She didn't want to sound dumb. Or slow, in either way. "I feel the same way," she said, speaking slowly and trying to avoid sounding like a complete idiot. She had never been through this before, so the whole awkward conversation thing was anything but her forte. Maybe she just needed to calm down. After all, she had come here to relax and de-stress-ify herself in the first place. Eclipse breathed in the colder sunset air. She closed her eyes for a short period of time and wagged her tail. After a few seconds, her tail ceased moving and she opened her eyes, looking at Jay and wondering what his response would be. word count: 148

My ears flicked back as she spoke. My mind wandered around. My heart pounded words floated threw my head. I looked at Eclipse, my mind started to sing it's own song, if you could only see the way I love her. Then maybe you would understand, why I feel this way about our love and what I must do. I let out a sigh as the singing in my head stopped. I thought up more words my ears went back.

' What would you do if you were my mate? How would you feel?'

My eyes on her, If you could only see how bright her eyes can be when she says, when she says she loves me. Maybe that would be one day. My head looked back. I scanned the dark land around us, the dark came fast it was as if we were in hiding now, I was fine with that. My tail curled as a cool breeaze played around us. It made me shake slightly, my ears forward i watched her curiously. Was she cold? I'd keep her warm... maybe that was to much to fast. i waited.

She was cold, but she would not move, not yet. She was frozen in thought. This is what she wanted, but now that she had arrived here, she was nervous. Life seemed to slow down, and Eclipse was still not moving. She felt like her brain was thinking, but it was as if her thoughts were swimming through syrup. She tried to organize herself enough to close her eyes for a moment. Her eyes shuddered closed, but opened again quickly, and she sucked in air, regaining control and leaving her dream-like state. But it wasn't a dream. Jay was still next to her, awaiting her answer. What should she say? It would come out badly no matter what she said, so she decided to wing it. "That...that would be great, perfect....I would love that..." she stuttered, her heart racing faster, awaiting his answer and hoping he wouldn't laugh. word count: 167
